City Council to Debate Chandler Urban Chicken Policy July 11
The Chandler City Council will consider an amendment to the city code to permit residents to raise chickens on single-family lots, regulate unreasonably loud chickens and other animal husbandry issues at 7 p.m., July 11, in the council chambers. The Planning and Zoning Commission will hear public input and vote on the proposed ordinance change.
Proposed adjustments would specifically allow urban chickens, with regulations on number and location. The proposed ordinance allows as many as five hens in single-family residential areas, but prohibits roosters and requires a “suitable enclosure” on back or side yards that must be at least 10 feet from a neighbor. It also regulates sanitation, and chickens must not disturb the peace or become a public nuisance.
