Don’t Chicken Out of this Egg-Cellent Opportunity

Eight chicken coops will be featured on Valley Permaculture Alliance’s seventh Annual Tour de Coops, a self-guided fundraising tour of the Valley’s most unique and funky chicken coops, on November 14. It begins at the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) Vocational and Life Skills Academy (just north of McDowell on 16th Street) and continues throughout greater downtown Phoenix. Coop “tourists” can drive or bike to the locations or join the guided bicycle tour.

The coops represent a range of designs, chicken-keeping secrets, responsible ownership, sustainable practices and solid examples of creative living in the Valley and urban desert Southwest. Chickens are a critical component in the effort for people to grow their own food sustainably through a closed-loop system in which nothing goes to waste.

Advance tickets are $20 ($30 at the door) for adults (13 & up) and free for children 12 & under. SARRC location: 2225 N. 16th St., Phoenix. Tour headquarters is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Coops open for viewing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit vpaaz.org.
