His motivation to take up a medical career began in childhood. “I had terrible acid reflux and gastrointestinal problems when I was younger,” says Collins. “My family took me to a chiropractor, and I got better. I thought, ‘This is exactly what I want to do for the rest of my life!’ I also felt that there were a lot of people struggling just like me, and had been told they were going to have to take medicine for the rest of their life. I knew I needed to help those people.”

Collins graduated from Arizona State University and received his doctorate from the Life Chiropractic College West, in California, before continuing his education in upper cervical care. “When I was in school, I wanted to be a sports chiropractor, but the more I studied and really learned the spine, I found that the most unstable portion in the spine is the upper cervical region,” he states. “It’s the only freely movable portion of the spine and is very susceptible to misalignment. Once we misalign the upper cervical region, it begins to affect the brain stem and other neurological structures that reside at that level.”

Collins elaborates, “The brainstem controls every automatic function and response in the body, such as sleep, digestion, blood pressure, heart rate, body temperature, balance and equilibrium and more. When the brain stem and the body are able to communicate with each other freely, you are able to live life to its fullest.”
